We would like to wish all our families a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah and a safe winter break! Thank you for helping to make our first semester of the 2011-2012 school year such a great one! Classes will resume bright and early on Tuesday, January 10th, 2012.
Student Led Conferences
Over the last few years students have taken the responsibility of leading their own parent conference at mid semester. These student led conferences are a great opportunity for students to share with their parents their greatest accomplishments so far and help set goals for the spring semester. For those of you who have attended one of these in the past you know the joy it brings to your child's face to have you in front of them as they reflect back on their performace during the fall semester. It is also very powerful to sit together and show them how much we all believe in them and their success. Please look out for upcoming newsletters and notes home for your scheduled date and time. Conferences will begin January 11, 2012 and run through January 18th. Please contact your child's teacher with any questions.
Adopt an Angel
Adopt An Angel
For years it has been a tradition at Gonzalez to team up with the Salvation Army to help make Christmas a special time for familes in need in our community. Students are given the opportunity to "adopt" a child and purchase a gift for them from their wishlist. The gifts are unwrapped and brought to school where the Salvation Army then comes by and picks them up. The gifts are then distributed to families during the holidays. As seen in our picture we had such an amazing response this year! Thank you, thank you, thank you for lending a hand this Christmas season!Yearbooks on Sale Now!

TBEC Honor Roll
We are proud to annouce that through hard work and student acheivement Gonzalez Elementary School has made the TBEC Honor Roll for 2011. Of the more than 8,000 Texas public schools less than 4% are honored each year. What a tremendous accomplishment!
The TBEC Honor Roll is the most prestigious award for sustained, academic excellence in Texas. It recognizes schools that have demonstrated three years of consistent, high performance in all subjects compared to other schools serving similar student populations. TBEC Honor Roll schools have the highest percentage of students performing at the state’s most rigorous standard -commended- in every subject. And, in this the last year of TAKS, the standards are the most demanding they have ever been.
Way to go Grizzlies!

Reading Contest
We would like to congratulate 4th grader Robyn E. and 5th grader Anar Y. for being the top scoring girl and boy from our campus. They both won a bicycle from the McAllen Police Department for earning the most AR points during the contest. A big thank you also to the McAllen City Police and Chief.
